How do you say delicious in French? It doesn't matter because your mouth will be full once you whip up this classic!
Yield: 2 sandwiches
Time: 25 minutes
2 Hoagies or French Rolls
4-6 oz. Unreal Deli Steak Slices
4 Slices Vegan Provolone or Swiss
2 Tbl + 2 Tbl Olive Oil, divided
1 Small Yellow or White Onion, sliced
1 Garlic Clove, minced
¼ Tsp Dried Oregano
1 C Vegetable or Beefless Broth
2 Tsp Soy Sauce or Coconut Aminos
1 Tsp Brown Sugar
1 Tsp Balsamic Vinegar
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Place the rolls, opened, on a baking sheet. Drizzle 1 TB olive oil over the inside of each hoagie and place in the oven until lightly golden.
Meanwhile, in a skillet or saucepan over medium heat, add the remaining 2 TB olive oil and sauté the onion until softened and starting to brown around the edges, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and oregano and stir around the pan for 1 minute.
Pour in broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, and balsamic vinegar. Let simmer for a few minutes. Taste for additional salt.
Using tongs, dip the Unreal Deli Steak Slices in the Au Jus, let excess liquid drip off, then pile it on the toasted hoagie rolls, grabbing some of the onions for the sandwich, too. Top each sandwich with 2 slices of cheese and pop back in the oven to melt.
Spoon the Au Jus into cups for serving.
